School Board Work Session Focuses on Civic Stadium

The Civic Stadium property was the topic of a special work session of the 4J District School Board October 21st. School board members heard a presentation by staff on the history of the stadium and the district’s ownership. They also saw an outline of options for possible next steps for the property, presented by consultants Hugh and Sue Prichard. This was jut a preliminary discussion and no votes were taken, but an informal consensus directed Superintendent George Russell to bring back recommendations regarding short-term options. Several school board members made note of the level of community support for efforts to save the stadium. For now these are excellent steps in the right direction for Save Civic Stadium's work.

As the Eugene Emeralds make their long-expected departure from the historic venue, the question does naturally arise — what’s next for Civic Stadium?

What’s next is the opportunity to usher in a wonderful new era at Civic.

A Fond Farewell, a Bright Future

Dear Fans of Civic Stadium,

It’s official, the Emeralds are leaving Civic, and the last Ems game of what looks to be their last season at this venerable stadium has come and gone.

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Save Civic Stadium, we would like to extend our best wishes to the Ems and the Beban family as they finish out their season and their long run here.

Summertime in Eugene and Ems' baseball at Civic have been synonymous for many wonderful years. Our community can be very grateful for what that combination has meant and we are all understandably sad to see it end.

But don't think it's the last time you'll watch a game at Civic, the last time you'll sit in the marvelous grandstand, or the last time you’ll hear the sound of a cheering crowd make its way through the neighborhood.

Save Civic Stadium is marching steadily forward with plans and strategic work to ensure that Civic Stadium will continue to be a vital part of our community.
